Trip to cemetery on Thursday - a sneak peek at the American past!

Last Thursday we went to the cemetery to see old graveyard and to make an aquaintance with American culture, old names and history... It was kind of creepy (even on a sunny day it was scary to see all those old monuments), but totally exciting and interesting:)))

On April 8 we went to visit Winsted cemetery. That was a very interesting trip which let us know a lot of information about the history of Winsted.

Thank you Marlene for taking great pictures in the Old Winsted Burying Ground. Veterans of the Civil War are buried here as well as other veterans. We recognized some local family names on the monuments. This is an obelisk, one of many in this cemetery. This was just a beginning in understanding the history of Winsted and the surrounding communities.

Walking Tour 4-8-10

Everyone seemed to enjoy the visit to the green, The First Church of Winsted, and the Winsted Old Burying Ground. Of particular interest were the war monuments in the green, the beautiful windows in the church, and the older graves and names in the cemetery. Most of the students were impressed with the history of Winsted. The weather was beautiful for the walk and it was fun to have the GED class join us.

We are studying about or the green in Colonial New England. We are learning what purpose they served for the villagers during this time in the history of the United States.
