1955 Flood

In 1955 there was a big flood in downtown Winsted. It destroyed houses, buildings, factories and bridges. People died in the flood others were homeless and had no jobs. There was no electricity, water or gas. Cars were destroyed and other properties of the people. The whole state of Connecticut had problems with the rivers flooding. The flooding came from two different hurricanes that were close together.
No one had flood insurance.
